The gameplay changes are nothing earth-shattering, but still, Angry Birds Rio marks the first time developer Rovio has started to make some genuine additions to their formula. Well, maybe that’s not the only difference…

The only real difference is that instead of pigs you’ll be freeing caged birds and taking out monkeys. The gameplay remains largely the same, with players putting some familiar feathered friends into a slingshot and aiming them at structures in order to kill pigs and complete the level.
Angry Birds Rio series#
The third instalment in the Angry Birds franchise (if you don’t count the series endless supply of free updates), Angry Birds Rio inserts the characters from Angry Birds into the plot of Rio, a film about two blue macaws who are birdnapped and need to make an escape. Would it be Angry Birds gameplay with Rio characters? Would the two worlds come together somehow? And what of the pigs? Now that Angry Birds Rio has finally arrived, our questions have been answered. When developer Rovio first announced a partnership with 20th Century Fox to put out a special edition of Angry Birds to tie-in with the upcoming film Rio, we were a little curious about what that might mean.

Angry Birds Rio update#

The Level Failed screens are different too, with the pigs laughing being replaced by the monkeys laughing & birds crying in their cages, which is nice. The idea about replacing the pigs with the monkeys & birds is a great idea, even for the Rio film.Like the Rio film, Nigel is a really amazing antagonist in the game.It is very faithful to the movie, such as Blu and Jewel being chained together, Luiz the bulldog cutting it which follows with Nigel kidnapping Jewel, the gang going to carnival to save her only for Blu to get captured himself and Nigel getting sliced by the plane propellors. It is the very first Angry Birds game to introduce boss fights, which is a cool addition to the Angry Birds franchise.Awesome soundtrack, with the best being the Rio 1 theme. The character models are well made, even for the Rio characters like Blu & Jewel.Like the first 2 Angry Birds games, the graphics are nicely done.Like Angry Birds Star Wars, the idea of having a crossover Angry Birds games is a brilliant & smart idea, & it is well executed.
